Film Studies
Why my favourite film is my favourite film:
At the moment my favourite film is Fight Club, one of the main reasons being that I love the book Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk which is what the film is based on and the film is in fact written by the same man; another reason that this is my favourite film is because I feel the casting is perfect and the actors work incredibly well in their parts and also work well with the director, David Fincher which brings me to my next point. I personally feel that David Fincher has been pretty up and down when it comes to film making and in my opinion peaked with Fight Club, however I also really like Se7en and Zodiac. I think that back on the subject of Fight Club that David Fincher handled the themes of Fight Club extremely well and even Chuck Palahniuk has said that he prefers the film adaptation to the to the book that he wrote. One of the main reasons that this is my favourite movie is based on the cinematography, I feel the movie is shot extremely well and the use of colours compliments the tone of the film perfectly.
Also, Meatloaf.
Why my I dislike a film:
I'm not really sure what my least favourite film is as there are a huge amount of terrible and forgettable films that I could easily pick, for this though I am going to to say Hellraiser, as I saw it recently and didn't really think it was as great as I had been told and was completely different to what I expected it to be as I went into it thinking it was a slasher movie having only seen pictures of Pinhead but it turned out to be an extremely slow paced horror movie hat tried to build suspense in ways that I found quite silly for example a man cutting his hand open on the sharpest rusty nail ever; also from what I remember of the film it didn't really seem to go anywhere or have any sort of conclusion. I do however feel that the special effects and makeup departments did a great job and it's a good example of classic 80's horror effects; however the characters in the movie were pretty odd but I feel that may have been intentional and I'm going to try and rematch it soon but go into it with a different mindset.
What a detailed analysis, I have never seen these films, but your "reviews", make me want to watch Fight club, and want to not watch and stay away from Hellraiser, thanks
ReplyDeleteLaurie, well done for posting your first Film Studies blog post. I'm looking forward to reading all your blog posts to come! A little harsh on 'Hellraiser' maybe? I haven't seen it for years. but your blog post makes me want to see if my fond memories might need reassessing..
ReplyDeleteLaurie, a good favourite and least favourite film homework. Following on from today's lesson, you have a mix of 'opinion' and 'analysis' (although I still feel you are a bit tough on 'Hellraiser'!)
